The Davis Learning Strategies® Program

Prepare your child for the academic rigors of next year

Did You Know?

  1. Your child's ability to read and write are the most important skills of his/her academic career?
  2. Even if your child is able to know his letters and sounds, it does not constitute reading comprehension?
  3. Reading and writing should be skills of automaticity to enable a fluid process?
  4. The early period of the elementary years are crucial for learning to read, as from third grade your child will be expected to learn from reading?

Join A Total Approach this Summer to...

  1. Work in a small group format of 6 children and 4 adults to steadily work through understanding each letter of the alphabet.
  2. Use the medium of clay on a consistent basis to learn the alphabet through a hands-on approach, while having fun.
  3. Work with your child on his/her individual level to attain the best level of performance possible by being consistent and methodical.
  4. Expose your child to a multisensory program, which will also include sensory integration with oodles of equipment necessary for your child's learning style.
  5. Join a group format where the children would be working on a common goal with much opportunity to socialize with each other and working together in dyads as well as a group is encouraged.

The Program is highly individualized with the emphasis on attaining new skill, not maintaining a current level of performance. The Occupational Therapist is trained in the Davis Learning Strategies® Program and the work is intense but fun. The program has great educational value and qualifies for extended school year programming in this regard!

This is not a summer camp where children are kept busy in a fun way, it is built for change!

The program will run: July 7th – 31st, 2008 From 9am – 12pm, Monday – Thursday.

Sign up your child with Joyce Ritz at (484) 840 - 1529 for a screening, if your child is 5 to 8 years old, has difficulty acquiring reading and writing automaticity, and wants to have fun learning a task they would want to choose to avoid!!!

Please read more about this program at www.dyslexia.com and search for it under the DLS® or Davis Learning Strategie®s program. This program should not be confused with the Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program, which is for children older than 8 years or adults.

Sensory Integration

Have your child come and explore a fun camp experience, while they work through their sensitivities of sensory information, climb over structures they themselves have made, explore oral sensations, work on motor planning and sequencing goals in a problem solving format and all of this while having fun! The activities are all planned in a social atmosphere with great opportunities to make friends. This camp will run for two weeks for a group of 8 children at the rate of $1500 per student from August 18 through August 29, Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm.

Combined Therapy

We also have several therapies such as Sound, OT, PT, and SLP, DIR, Balametrics etc. that are offered in individualized intensives. The emphasis is on training the caregivers and providing information for the home, while also working on creating lasting change. The time frame and pricing will depend on each individual child. Many families use this service as a diagnostic placement to determine which programs / school placements would be more beneficial to your child. Others come from other states or countries to effect change and obtain home programming ideas for their child. It is an ideal time to plan for this during summer time, but due to the intensity of the programming, it must be planned well in advance.

As always, space is limited, so call Joyce at 484 840 1529 to show your interest and one of our therapists will get back to you to set up your screening. The screening will be at a cost of $200 and will include a 2 hour evaluation of your child, time for the therapist to put the data together, and a consultation with Maude Le Roux to discuss the program recommendations for your child's individual needs.
