Infant Massage
In addition to facilitating bonding and attachment for infants/babies and their caregivers, infant massage has numerous benefits.
- Infant massage provides the essential skin stimulation provided by touch, which assists the brain in releasing hormones that impact nerve development and learning.
- Through bonding and touch, infant massage provides relaxation for both babies and caregivers which facilitates nerve connections and aids in memory.
- Touch/tactile stimulation also provide the foundations for adequate sensory integration which increases body awareness, the brain/body connection and the development of early motor skills.
- Additionally, infant massage can aid in the relief discomfort secondary to digestive difficulties and/or regulation and sleep challenges.
The massage strokes themselves combine Indian Massage Strokes, Swedish Massage Strokes, Reflexology, and Yoga. Here, at A Total Approach, our infant massage program is designed to provide an environment that is optimal for babies and parents/caregivers to relax and learn together. The individual sessions or classes provide parents and caregivers with the massage techniques, while addressing the importance of reading baby's cues and the emotional joys and challenges inherent in a new birth or adoption. This program strives to empower parents and caregivers while facilitating the nurturance that all babies, and their mothers, deserve.
Infant Massage Services at A Total Approach
- The Infant Massage program is optimal for infants and babies ages 4-6 weeks through 6-7 months. Babies and toddlers who are older may also benefit from the program, and it is recommended that families with babies or toddlers who are interested call for a telephone consultation to determine the best environment for the families to participate in the program.
- Infant Massage coaching is provided either on an individual basis or in a class setting. Typically, the program is provided in a class setting with one educator and 5-7 baby/caregiver pairs. If the infant massage program is provided on an individual basis, the number of sessions will be determined prior to the start of the program.
- Infant Massage classes run for 5 consecutive weeks for 1-1/2 hours per session.
- CEIMs guide baby/caregiver groups through relaxation techniques, massage strokes, and discussion topics.
