Infant Wellness
The infant wellness program is designed for families who want the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of infant development, bonding and attachment, and strategies to promote health and well being within their family. It is geared toward all families who desire a comprehensive understanding of the latest research and information regarding what to expect from and what to provide their newborn baby. The program is also designed to serve as a screening mechanism for early detection of children with delays in motor skills, language skills and emotional/social development. As such, there is a strong consultation component for families whose infants are considered at risk, whether because the infants themselves were born prematurely, or experienced other gestational or delivery complications, as well as perhaps having an older sibling with difficulties.
Infant Wellness Program at A Total Approach
- Initial consultation: families will meet with a member of our infant specialist team to discuss goals and individualized needs of families entering the program
- Five Week Program
- Families meet for 1½ - 2 hours each time with a certified educator of infant massage (CEIM) to
learn infant massage together for a period of 5 weeks.
Infant massage classes are designed to provide parents / caregivers with an understanding of a mutual massage experience that will promote health and well being for their infants and the entire family. The bonding process is an important aspect of learning and teaching infant massage. This process creates a secure attachment, which will help to empower parents and caregivers in their new role. - Resources / Discussions
Within the program, families/parents/caregivers are a part of interactive discussions regarding bonding and attachment, motor and language development, understanding the cues of infants, sleeping, feeding, and emotional well being for infants and parents. The curriculum is infused with The Touchpoints™ outlined by Dr. T. Barry Brazelton. The families also receive a binder of information on different discussion points with research articles - Screening and Consultation Services
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech/Language Therapy Screenings and Consultation Services are available within the program when appropriate - Wellness Visits / Ongoing Care
