The P.L.A.Y. Project

the P.L.A.Y. Project logo

The P.L.A.Y Project is a cost-effective way to provide community-based interventions for children with autism. Parents and professionals learn effective ways to provide home-based programs woven into a clinically supervised framework. Developed by Dr. Rick Solomon and based on the theories of Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Wieder (DIR Model), this nationally recognized program was developed for parents searching for ways to help their children at home. It also is research based for efficacy and at this time thousands of families across the nation are receiving the benefit of this program from over 2000 trained Floortime Practitioners.

How would this program work?

  1. An intake sheet is completed.
  2. A therapist calls to talk about your exact needs and situation and set up an evaluation date.
  3. Your first appointment will be a comprehensive 3-hour evaluation at our offices. A profile is created to be used to develop a unique program to meet your child's needs in your home.
  4. The P.L.A.Y. Project
  5. A consultation meeting will be set up to discuss the results of the testing
  6. Scoring is completed and presented to other team members for final analysis.
  7. At the consultation meeting we discuss your child's profile, potential for the program and other logistics.
  8. You may elect to sign an agreement for the next year at this meeting, or go home and think about the results first.
  9. The program includes
    • A 3-hour monthly home visit with a trained P.L.A.Y. Project Partner for period of at least one year.
    • P.L.A.Y Partner will assess progress, tweak goals and teach strategies to work on for the next month.
    • Your Partner will model techniques to be used on the floor, coach parents and other caregivers and help identify ways to generalize techniques in home and school environments.
    • Finally, most importantly, your Partner will videotape a portion of your session.
  10. After analyzation of the video, Maude le Roux (DIR Certificate), will provide voice-over feedback on a 15 minute segment of the video. This video is sent back to the parents who can then view the video, learn from Maude's commentary and see the subtleties and nuances they may not have seen in the moment.
  11. A written report containing data tracking, goals, activity ideas and floortime principles to draw from will accompany the CD.
